A Comparison Between Kindle Fire Vs Nook Color

There has been a great fight between Kindle Fire Vs Nook Color since the launch of the tablet Kindle Fire as both contains near about same features. Before the launch of Kindle Fire, the price which you need to pay for the Nook was $249. However, after the launch of Kindle Fire on 15th Nov 2011 at a price point of $199, the price of Nook Color has to be dropped down to approximately the same price as set for Kindle Fire.

Let us see the major reasons behind the decrease in the price of Nook Color after experiencing both the gadgets Kindle Fire and Nook Color.

Kindle fire vs nook color
Generally, you can consider both as e-book readers where you can read comics, books, newspapers and magazines. However, they offer some more additional features of a tablet.

Browsing the Internet:

With the use of new technology, the browsing capacity and speed of Kindle Fire has become far better then its counter parts including Nook Color. Due to Amazon cloud, Kindle Fire gets additional strength, huge space and speed while uploading any  website and hence over taking the Nook in terms of website uploading and browsing the internet. This makes Kindle Fire better than the Nook in terms of web browsing.

Movies and Videos:

As compare to Kindle Fire, Nook offers you an improved collection of videos. You can also check the video for visiting some of the best locations and to learn the method of cooking recipes. However, Kindle Fire also offers you a large collection of movies and videos with the help of Amazon cloud and the vast library of videos and movies. The best part of it is you can not only watch these videos and movies but can also save them in your Kindle Fire. However, Nook Color does not facilitate you with the feature of storing videos and movies in it. So, the Kindle surpasses the Nook in terms of storing videos and movies.

Storage Capacity:

Now if we compare the storage capacity of both the devices then Nook Color offers us a stretchable storage capability. We can use a micro SD card in Nook. This will create a large space for us to download pictures, documents, and music in the gadget. However, the space will be of 32 GB which can get occupied after a limited storage. On the other hand, Kindle Fire provides 8 GB internal memory and it can be again extended to unlimited storage capacity because of Amazon’s cloud technology. The storage capability of the Kindle becomes stretchable due to this new technology of Amazon. Hence in terms of storage capacity also the Kindle is better than the Nook.

The size of the screen:

If we compare the screen of the gadgets then our work becomes easy as both the gadgets have same screen size which is 7 inch color touch screen. Apart from the screen size, there are many other features which both gadgets have same. It includes games, apps, music, movies, videos, documents, photos, and email function.

Once you charge both the tablets fully you can be assured of its use for complete 8 hours. The Wi-Fi feature offered in both the devices is excellent and you will be able to access anything from the internet during your travel whether it is via train, bus of airplanes.

Price:

You will be able to get all these facilities and to avail these facilities you just need to pay near about same amount to purchase any of the two tablets. The price range fixed for Kindle Fire is $ 199 which is now approximately same as the price point of Nook Color After 15TH November.

As per the comparison, it is clear that some features of the Kindle are better than Nook Color. On the other hand, for some features of Nook Color has surpassed the Kindle Fire. So, the choice is completely yours. You can purchase any of the two devices as per the features of your choice and need. I believe both devices are perfectly satisfying the superiority of a tablet.

do you need an amazon account for a kindle??

I believe so as you are accessing the Amazon Market for movies, apps, music, books, etc. I could be wrong on this.

Yes, I believe so. But it is free to get an account, so it is not that big of a deal. (:

You need an account but amazon offers sooooo many free things. I have wanted an ipad forever, but got a kindle fire instead and there are so many free books, movies, tv shows, magazines. Its insane!! i feel like the only free thing that apple offers are apps and that so much must be purchased through itunes if you want music, videos or books. also the ipad is HUGE and bulky. The kindle is a little smaller but looks soooooo amazing. Everything is big enough to see, the color is insanely beautiful and the screen is soooo durable. Also there is a soft backing that doesn't scratch up like alot of other tablets. The biggest selling point is the price. $199 is so much better than 499 for an ipad especially when you can get most of the same apps and functionality.

Sheree, i am thinking about purchasing a kindle fire for myself, because everybody else says it is a wonderful e-reader. I have tried many other e-readers and none have the comparisons as you describe. I have done alot of research about the diffrent e-readers and the kindle fire always ends up at the top. Not only is it a cheap price, it is beatyifully designed aswell. So how long would you say the kindle fire will last??

I appreciate your review. I just recently took interest when my wife decided she wanted one for Xmas. I am a iPad user, therefore, completely unaware of either tablets features, for the most part. I think I have settled on the Kindle Fire... Thx & take it easy... tnb

Hi Todd, I too have a iPad (hardly get a chance to use it) and saw the Amazon Kindle Fire at Sams Club. I am interested in it - when you have a chance to use it, can you share your opinions on it? If you don't mind. Thank you.

I got a Kindle Fire for Christmas. It froze constantly (every few minutes). I returned it and they sent a new one. It freezes too, tho not as often (approx every 20-30 minutes). I understand this is a major problem they've encountered. I'm DONE. I'm getting a Nook.

    • Jim
      December 17th, 2011 05:09
Amy, ANY Kindle is worth what you pay for them. You could read forever on what is available for free at Amazon.com. Keep in mind that you have the option of buying some of the Kindle models either with or without 'offers'. These are just small banners at the bottom of the screen on your home (content) page, and in full screen as a screen saver in the standby mode. They never appear on book pages, and some of the offers are pretty enticing. The 'offers' versions save you $30 on the price.

Can I download barnes and noble books ti kindle fire?
  • Dave
    November 29th, 2011 19:35
I think one of the biggest questions for anyone to answer is will you want to borrow books from the library. Currently Kindle is a proprietary format and does not read the ePub format which is what most public libraries offer. You can only get books from Amazon. Being a nook color owner I can honestly say other than that I would probably own a kindle but have absolutely no complaints about the nook - Fire just sounds better than Nook. Unless you are ultra picky or a fanboy you will be happy with either one.

I just went to my library website and they have recently added Kindles and iphone/ipads/android phones and tablets on epub lending. You can directly download onto iphone but have to download kindle content to your home computer and then to kindle. A little more work but free!

        • Caroline
          January 4th, 2012 05:16
Hi Hannah, look, as for the kindle fire, you can't download books from barnes and noble, it has to be from Amazon, which would probably be a disadvantage because barnes and noble has a LOT of books, I heard that over 20 million, and I am not really convinced that Amazon features the same quantity. As for the Nook, you can download books from every library and website that you wish, and if you are traveling, for exmple, to Mexico, you can download books from the libraries in there as long as you are connected to the internet. If any familiar wants to give you a gift of lets Say, 40 dollars for you to buy books and download them at your kindle tgrough a gift card, they would not be able to buy one from Amazon unirás you go to a Amazon store. They wouldn't be able to buy a Barbes and Noble gift card, either, because the kindle cannot accept it. If you look through conveniences, you will clearly notice that the Nook has more facilities because you can buy a gift card from barnes and noble everywhere: at Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Barnes and NOble, etc. I hope my information was useful.

Hi "gorgeous". I own a kindle fire and i believe it is a wonderful e-reader and i get so many free books and movies, I believe it is probably in your best priority to buy a kindle fire. Not only is it beautifully layed out, it is also only $199.00. Good Luck to you!!

        December 11th, 2011 14:57
That's not correct. Both the Kindle and Nook are $199. The Kindle has a better processor and (because of the Silk browser) is a bit faster on the Web. The Nook has better storage and expansion options (and supports Bluetooth) and seems easier to "root", should you want to navigate beyond the Amazon/BN stores. Both are good choices. FWIW, I own a Kindle Fire. My sister owns a Nook Color. We compared them last week.
    • December 23rd, 2011 04:31
Dear Kris, I have recently purchased a kindle fire and have compared the prices of both e-readers online and have come to a conclusion that both portray the same price of $199.00.

If your daughter is a teenager, she might prefer the Nook Color for the sake of the higher resolution screen. I'm assuming she would want to get on Youtube and etc. However, either one would be awesome and I think you would be an awesome mom either way you go! :D I, personally have and prefer the Kindle. But a Nook would not be bad by any means.

        January 9th, 2012 20:20
Actually the Nook and the Kindle Fire have the same resolution. The only difference is the saturation of the color on the nook. They just made the colors pop more with a technique you can do with a basic version of windows media player on the pc.

    • Meep
      December 7th, 2011 18:51
On the amazon app store thing you can go to all apps then it will have a drop down box that has the options of highest seller, price: low to high, price: high to low, etc. Click on low to high and the free apps will be on the first page
    • December 8th, 2011 04:05
I also have a 10 yr old daughter and I think that a Kindle Fire or Nook Color is a great compromise. My daughter wanted an iPad because she loved playing on her grandma's iPad. When she & I started researching the Kindle & Nook, we both decided that these lower priced alternatives to the iPad provided everything that she needed/wanted. Let's see how they take care of these before we make a more significant investment!

How about you get her a library card? That way you can control the things that she reads. With all the free apps and books, who knows what she will download. I'm sure you already have a family computer, so why would you buy something so expensive for a 10 y/o who has no idea of a dollar, or how to care for expensive electronics.

Get Kindle and you will never regret. $199 provides you everything.Basically I don't want to buy costly tablets as technology keeps on changing and there will be something new next year so instead invest in $199 now and another $199 when something new comes next year or further... Just my 2 cents!

Do both the Kindle Fire and the Nook have the advanced ink display making them the preferred reader vs. how an ipad has high reflection on its screen for daylight reading?
    • kindle lover
      December 13th, 2011 22:14
The kindle fire does not have the advanced ink display it has the high resolution screen but you have 3 different choices for the display... black screen with white lettering, white back ground with black lettering and beige background with black lettering. the black background with white lettering helps you see the screen during the day although not as well as the advanced ink.

Of course you will be ok with the Nook, I personally think that it is better that the kindle fire, the kindle is an imitation of the Nook, I don't like the kindle at all, Caroline is right, you can get a gift card from barnes and noble everywhere and you can download boom from every store and website, no matter the country, ahilé in the kindle, you can't

  • sam
    December 8th, 2011 02:35
It really comes down to what you like. The nook supports more ebook formats and both text and images look better on it. SD storage is a good advantage as well. It really sucks to want something on the cloud when you don't have WiFi access! Ease of use of the Kindle Fire is great for many. The Nooks extra cost may be worth it to some.

I have done a lot of research on both the kindle fire and Nook Color and this seems to be a very biased video and commentary. on the video much of the same features that were shown on the fire are also on the color but just not shown, plus I understand that you can root the nook and make it even more powerful. And is it true that you can only put a small amount if any non-amazon data in the cloud. All in all I would suggest that people look at more impartial advice on which device to buy. I know that I will be.

yes shaina, you are able to borrow books from other people. however, you have a limit: usually about only 6 people u can send your book to. i personally like the kindle fire a lot. it is only $199 and it offers a lot of free apps.you should get the kindle fire.

I currently own a 1st edition nook and decided to get a tablet. Let me say, I have loved my nook!! I have never had any issues, the screen is wonderful, it is user friendly, and I am able to load tons of non-B&N material. I have done lots of research between the nook color and kindle fire. I went into stores such as Best Buy to play with the fire and went to a B&N store to play with the color. I have to say, the fire seemed to move a little more quickly, but the quality of the picture was far superior on the color. The apps seemed to be pretty much the same. I went with the color in the end and love it!!

I have a Nook Color, and absolutely love it, and get a lot of use out of it. . . Both my sons have basic Nooks and enjoy them. . . I'm considering upgrading to the Nook Tablet mainly for the faster processor, and a few other features that the Color lacks. . . As someone else mentioned, with a Nook, you can go to ANY Barnes & Noble and get tech help, if needed. I had an issue with mine charging completely, and they change it out right at the store, and I left with a new Nook that visit. . . You can go into a B&N and read any book (if it's an e-book) in the place for free. You can borrow and loan books with other Nook owners. . . And as previously mentioned, the display is AMAZING interms of color and resolution! My sister in law HAD a Kindle, and replaced it with a Nook Color, and swears by her Nook.

I have been struggling for months to find an e-reader suitable to my needs & I have finally narrowed my decision down to two e-readers: the Nook Color & the Kindle Fire. I had wanted to see a compare/contrast piece on the two readers, so I was more than pleased when I saw this article. Your article definitely presented information I was hoping to learn.

I received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. I do not like the fact that I have to use wifi for all my downloads. There is no way to link the Fire to my computer other than wireless and sharing files. Also it gets heavy to hold after a short time. Make no mistake the Fire is a nice little tablet but I am taking mine back and will be waiting on the iPad 3 in either March or April.

A 10 year old should not have a $200 anything! Kids are so spoiled rotten these days. All these kids running around with smart phones makes me sick.

I just received a nook color for Christmas from my fiancé. I have read this comparison and everybodys comments and I still don't know if I want to exchange the nook for the kindle fire. I wanted the kindle for apps and movies, but if I can do everything the same on the nook then I may as well keep it. Help...I love my Droid phone and the android market. Which one is more similar?

Crucial point needs to be made that by using the Cloud you are paying for the legal rights to basically stream a particular song because you dont actually have the data on your device. This means no WiFi, no capabilities of accessing what you paid for.

I like to know if with either the Nook or the Kindle one can use dictionary. Also can it be use with other languages or is it just English?Spanish is my first language, it will be nice to get Spanish books and also be able to access either dictionary if I encounter words I do not know.
