Kindle Fire Vs iPad- Is There Any Comparison Between The Two Gadgets?

Amazon itself is the best seller of books and has millions of books, magazines, and comics to offer you. With the advancement of technology, Amazon has come up with fantastic e-book readers to offer you the vast library of its products easily.

In this winter holidays, Amazon has again come up with its new product i.e. the Kindle Fire. In this winter holidays Amazon has again come with its new launch i.e. the Kindle Fire. This new gadget will not only offer you an excellent experience of an e-book reader but will provide you lots of apps and other interesting features of a tablet.

Now with a great hit in the highly competitive gadget industry, Kindle Fire is being appreciated by everyone. According to a market survey done by eDataSource it is found that Amazon has received 95,000 orders after the very first launch of the Kindle and now it is receiving approximately 20,000 preorders for the Kindle every day.

The sale of Apple’s iPad has also got affected after the launch of the Kindle Fire on 15th November. As per Cult (Android), there is a pre-order of 50,000 Kindles recorded on the first day of its launch. The reason may be the price $199 which is far less than the price of an iPad 2 which is $500. Let’s have a look on both the gadgets in short – Kindle Fire versus iPad.

Kindle Fire Vs iPad

Price:

Price is playing a major role in the high sale of the Kindle Fire. There is no competition between the Kindle Fire and the iPad in terms of price. The price of the Kindle is near about half a price as that of an iPad. Due to this reason, consumers are ready to buy a Kindle Fire even though there are some extra features offered by iPad.

Storage Capacity:

The Kindle Fire offers you the storage capacity of 8 GB internal memory and it does not have any slot for memory expansion. However, it offers Amazon’s silk cloud facility which offers you an unlimited space to use. So there is no issue with the storage capacity of the Kindle. Apple’s iPad also offers the storage capacity more than the Kindle which is 16 GB. But no issue the new cloud technology of Amazon used in the Kindle has solved the problem.

Kindle fire

Battery Backup:

iPad offers you battery backup of 10 hours and on the other hand you will be able to use the Kindle for 8 hours once recharged. So it can again be ignored.

Network:

Both the devices iPad and the Kindle offer you Wi-Fi facility. However, it addition to Wi-Fi you will also get an expensive 3G version offered in iPad. 3G is the plus point of Apple iPad. However please note that the basic version of iPad does not come equipped with 3G.

Movies and Video:

As the Kindle Fire provides you access to the vast library of music, videos, documents, apps and many other products so you are never going to regret for the availability to content. And to access all these content you need to pay lesser the amount you need to pay for purchasing anything using an iPad via iTunes. IPad also offers you all the content in a large number and you can download free as well as paid games, apps, videos etc using it vast iTunes library.

Amazon kindle fire

As per the reviews, there is no comparison between the two devices. So, the purchase only depends on content offering capacity, size, and most importantly on the price of the gadget.

I bought the kindle fire for my uncle who lost both of his arms in an unfortunate tap dancing accident several years ago. He loves to read but absolutely hates this kindle for some reason..he mentioned something about how it was hard to operate with your toes. Amazon should focus on making these tablets more handicap-friendly

I own both ipad 2 and kindle. I will tell you that you basically get what you pay for. The Kindle fire apps are nowhere near as good as the ipad apps. Even though you can purchase music and movies through amazon, with the ipad you have the ability to download your own music as well. You can purchase books for the ipad from Amazon as well as all the other venues. This gives you the ability to support other businesses while you have a much wider variety of content. It also depends what you want to use it for. If the purpose is mainly for reading or if you don't already own a bunch of music and you're looking to buy a new collection, the Kindle might be a great choice. But if you have an ipod or already have an extensive amount of music either in CDs or through itunes, know that these are not compatible with Kindle. I personally like the ipad more because I am a writer and ipad has word processing software that is compatible with my computer. I can sink my ipad up with my computer so that if I edit or add to one of my stories, it will automatically be updated on my computer. But like I said, it's all about what you are planning on using the devise for. I love my ipad and feel it was money well spent. Not to mention, Apple is a very consumer friendly company. When I first got my ipad, I had one of those magnetized covers (I don't recommend buying one of those. Go for the more expensive covers that cover the entire ipad). I was trying to take a picture with my ipad, but the cover was in the way. I had rolled it back and found that it was awkward to hold because the cover was bunched up under my hand and I didn't have a very good grip on my ipad. Needless to say, the ipad slipped out of my hands because the cover fell off, and it landed face first on concrete. The entire screen shattered. I did not have insurance on it. I went to the store, ready to buy a new one (and upset to hell with myself for having wrecked the one I just bought), and Apple replaced my entire ipad for free!!!!!!!!!! I have the 64 gig ipad which is 850 dollars and they didn't make me pay a cent. They gave me a whole new ipad, exactly like the one I broke. I couldn't believe it. I vowed after that day that I would always buy Apple products over any other product.

Excellent review. I am not a huge mac fan, but do love itunes. I have a Kindle so was debating staying with the product. I found this review very helpful and will be going with the ipad2 as a result. Thanks for taking the time to write this.

You are a writer? Really? "I can sink my ipad" - It's sync, not sink. "what you are planning on using the devise for"....It's device, not devise. No wonder you need the iPad, you would be lost without grammar and spell check.

@Stephanie, Such a scathing reply about grammar and spelling. Why not direct it towards the original author with his/her elementary writing skills? Seems to me you're a Apple hater, and this is how you plan to discourage anybody who will be drawn to Apple products.

No need to get nasty Stephanie. Caroline gave a nice, well thought-out personal opinion. Posts like hers and some others here help other consumers choose whether or not to purchase a product. Posts like yours add absolutely nothing to the discussion. If you have some experience with either the Kindle Fire or iPad, please let us know what you think. But none of us here need you to correct our grammar for us. This is not a professional or academic journal we are posting to, and therefore not subject to the same standards.

Kudos to H, Niles, and Marie! What a troll Stephanie! Heaven forbid that we can't give insightful and thoughtful responses without someone like you attempting to spout off with your faux intellect about someone misusing grammar or making a syntactical error. There are those of us that are considered true grammarians who have extensive schooling in the English language and it's usage that really don't care. It takes a lot more courage to put yourself out there.

Although Stephanie's comment was unnecessary and yes, Caroline gave a "nice, well thought-out" review. I too find errors like that annoying, although I make them ALL the time. To 'H' it's *an Apple hater*. Couldn't help myself :)

And what a dufus you are. No wonder the US is going downhill so fast. No public criticism allowed, poor spelling encouraged. Education for dummies free in all our public schools! Be illiterate but be glad; none may criticize you or they will be labeled MEAN!

She's not being hateful. She's just calling out the liar in the room. Nothing wrong with that. You can't just call yourself a writer and misuse the word "device" and "sync". Holy crap!

This is what happens when you think you know what you are talking about and someone with knowlege and experince steps in and educates you "nicely" and you call it HATE. That sounds so republican.

I think Stephanie's keen eye actually lends to the veracity (or lack thereof) to Caroline's review. Anyone who calls themselves a writer and makes glaring mistakes such as those is very telling.

Remember, Stephanie, that the auto-correct feature often turns our original words into different words. Caroline's posting was thoughtfully done and informative. I'm a former English professor and a true stickler for grammar and punctuation, but have come to accept and appreciate auto-correct, even though it often has a mind of its own.

Caroline, thanks for the thoughtful and comprehensive reply. Unlike your un-fan, Stephanie, I'm actually smart enought to not require all of your words be spelled correctly to understand your message. I think Stephanie is seeking approval and love in her life--probably an underachiever who has issues with her mother. Where else does that anger come from? (Whoops! I ended the question with a preposition! I'm quite sure that sent poor Stephanie into a conniption fit! Actually, I did it on purpose ...) Ugly, Stephanie, just pure and simply ugly. Good luck with your personal relationships.

What you are missing is............PRICE! Yes IPad is better in everything except price. This folly is like comparing a Ferrari with a Chevy! What amazon has basically said is you snobs can have your IPads and ferraris, we will make an affordable and reliable tablet for the rest us.
      • January 6th, 2012 11:37
LOL. She calls them as she sees them. I'm not an apple hater, but if you're a writer you should probably be able to spell past a 7th grade level.

Why are so many people so rude and mean? Don't say you're not and give it some other excuse or explanation. Many of you are just mean-hearted and it's easy for you to do it here with your secret identities. What does it really accomplish? No one can post anything without someone saying something mean, just like someone will to this post. I have no doubt. I feel sad that's how it has to be. God help us. I hope some of you, even just one of you will think twice before you say something mean to the next person.

Caroline, I have a friend that dropped his kindle about six months after he bought it and amazon shipped a new one immediately after he notified them. I agree that the iPad wins on 9 out of 10 comparisons but it is the other 1 that draws me to the standard kindle. I got a chance to play with the kindle fire over the holiday and I found it severely lacking. One thing that Apple has done that no one else has is to create the best virtual keyboard in the business. Android just can't get it right. I loved android and its unlimited customization but I switched to the iPhone because of the keyboard. I find the same thing with the iPad. I spent at least 5 minutes more on web searches correcting typing errors while I was using the kindle fire. I recommend that you don't get a Kindle Fire if you want an iPad and don't get an iPad if you just want to check Facebook. If you are really enamoured with the digital age of books get the kindle because there is no better interface for reading. It's as close as you can get to a book. There so many other variables to consider when you choose a computer screen over the standard kindle's unique interface. If you have dyslexia, suffer from other learning disabilities, or wear contacts you may have issues with the kindle fire, nook, or ipad This is why I may drop $80 on one. I love to read but love to read actual books.

I want a Kindle fire for reading and logging notes. I have a 120GB iPod with thousands of songs and a few videos and plan to keep it until it's full. I have an issue/problem with putting all my "tech" on one device. Call it "old school tech thinking" if you want. After reading the comments, I think I'll go with the Kindle fire. Thanks all for the info.

I have a Fire and iPad 2; no comparison. iPad by far. The only difference is the adobe flash/JavaScript. But, hopefully Apple can come to their senses soon and reach an agreement. Graphics: iPad By far, the graphics are far superior. I felt like I went back in the past while playing some games on the Fire. Speed: Not really sure... Don't really know... Size: iPad 7" - 10" Size (GB): iPad Smallest for iPad is 16GB, 8GB for Fire Cost: Fire $199-$500 Built-in external features: Tie iPad has 2 cameras, but that's it. It also has a mute/rot. lock Fire has a memory card slot, but no cameras. Overall, I think you can go either way. But, I'd say, if you have the money, go with iPad.

They are still at it, this time it is MSNBC that is comparing the Kindle Fire to the iPad2. Wtf are these people thinking? The Kindle Fire is not an apple killer, it is not an iPad competitor,it is a little 7" tablet that compares to the Nook Tablet. The K-Fire does what it is supposed to do and it does it very well. Yes, the K-Fire does have it's own limitations but what do you want for $200 The comments on the MSNBC article were from owners of iPad, Kindle Fire and the Nook Tablet and they all say the same. The article is biased and one sided and like others, they still compare the tablet to the iPad to take credit away from Amazon and damage their credibility. Amazon should be credited for what they have done well, they placing a good product for a good price in a market that is struggling due the results of the present economy.

I agree completely. Comparing these two devices is really like comparing Apples (no pun intended) to oranges. Both the Fire and iPad are incredible devices, but both are very different. The iPad has much more functionality, thus its higher cost. The Fire is much more just an entertainment device. If you need a mobile device for entertainment alone, you can do well with the Fire, which is a much better choice than the Nook Color in my opinion. If you need a mobile device for entertainment and creation, the iPad or a similar Android tablet is what you need. I believe that the iPad is king in this category simply because of the massive amount of support in the form of applications is has currently. That may change in the next year or two if Android tablets continue to sell well.

Hey, I appreciate the comparisons because I am not really savy enough to know there is no comparison. I got a Fire for Christmas. I travel and would like to have a reader but of course could use other aps and the writing capabilities also. Wow the world would be lost with out people like you! Ya know those who think they are better smarter and far superior to everyone else. It is such a major relief when I am looking for some helpful input, that one of you self imposed grammar GODs have to put in your negative 2 cents about a mis spelled word or not placing a comma where it it should be. Damn you must ride around in a box truck cause I'm sure your head won't fit in any normal passenger compartment. Everyone else who read this article got it, it was to the point and seemed fair. Not to mention helped several people make a decision. So Thank you Caroline! Stephanie Get a Life!!

I know u will absolutely LOVE IT! I got one, and it's the best thing I ever bought in my life. It does everything that a kindle can do and more. Everybody is saying "it has no flash", well every day hundreds of websites are switching from flash to java. There is only one website I ever encountered on my iPad in the last 9 mounts that I had it that didn't show up right. Also amazon is going to update its kindle fire to kindle water or something stupid like that in just a couple months, and then you will have to buy the new one because amazon won't support the fire anymore. Bottom line is, if you are not a total cheapo, and you want to use product for a long time, and you want the best care and combatibility, get an iPad.

I love using my kindle fire. Its great because i love to read and it was a more affordable price for my pocket. I would love to own an Ipad because i can use it in my profession unfortunately at this time i can not afford it. Both products are great and can be used. It all depends on what you want to use it for and what you can afford. I will continue to enjoy using my kindle fire and will continue to use it once being able to afford hopefully by then an Ipad 3.

My friend has an iPod and I just received a Kindle Fire for Christmas. 1.) There is a dramatic difference in the weight of the Kindle - it's heavy for me to hold in my hand for a long time. The iPad is much lighter and thinner to hold. Sorry, I haven't found the specification weights yet. 2.) Also, I'm a Mac user, so the compatibility factor with my other devices comes into play. 3.) I don't like being tied to Amazon as a customer - they're not a woman/girl-friendly company.

After Rooting the Kindle and Installing the Google Marketplace app on my Kindle, there's no shortage of apps (The Kindle runs android OS). Software should not be part of any specs on a tablet because any operating system can be put on any device. The differences are in hardware - the ipad has camera support and 3g network. I find that completely unneccesary as I already have a really nice studio laptop. My guess is most people use their ipads just for games and facebook - all of which can be done on a kindle fire or other tablet. if that justifies your 600 dollar purchase then all the power to you. There are far superior tablets at the price - even quad-cores.

I have an iPad, and it's frustrating how it does not support Flash player. The Kindle Fire allows you to view videos posted via Flash, which to me makes a HUGE difference when surfing the web on a tablet device.

For what it's worth...if you care about audio quality: I have a Kindle Fire and an extensive collection of AAC encoded music (ripped from my physical CD collection). I can tell you that the music plays just fine on the Kindle. In fact, the audio quality is superb...much better than on any of my numerous iPods or iPhones. I don't think the iPad has different audio circuitry than any other iDevice.

So far...I love the Kindle Fire for these reasons: Smaller size=better portability and easier to hold. Device is used primarily for reading (Kindle books of course); casual web browsing (reading news sites); shopping on Amazon; playing a few games; listening to music with high quality headphones; watching Amazon Prime movies (netflix works too); Facebooking. Occasionally, checking WORK email (ugh). Smaller screen seems EASIER on the eyes when reading for extended periods. Maybe less light impinging on the eyes=less eye strain? $200 vs $500 is a no-brainer. I really can't see doing any serious content creation on an iPad...I'd MUCH rather have a MacBook Air or Pro for that. For those of us who can type 100 words per minute...you've got to be kidding me with the touch screen keyboards. Composing email on either Kindle or iPad is a slow chore...very hard to type more than 10wpm. Very tedious, so if you expect to do a lot of this, I'd suggest finding a way to add a bluetooth keyboard to either device.

I agree that a comparison of one to the other is likened to a measure of apples to oranges. However, one BIG thing that turns me totally off for the IPad is how fragile the screen is upon impact (shattered?, really? for all that $$$), and Apple is not always so inclined or gracious to simply replace with a new unit. That's one reason they (Apple and merchants) push the insurance, and I don't think that will be everyone's experience (at least it has not been for me). The Kindle (I have the 2nd generation) is more durable and has been dropped (even on concrete). It has a few scratches, but is still ticking. Based on what I've seen here and other places, that the new Kindle firew will work well for me. I just want to surf the web and read, not really interested in viewing movies (maybe some short videos here and again), nor am I interested in using it as an mp3 device or for generating/editing documents (too small). I won't be storing a large amount of content on the device, so the Kindle Fire would suit me just fine (or maybe the Nook). It would be nice, however, if the Kindle has removable media. Ahhhh, to have the best of both worlds would be divine, but we're not there yet. :)

Ok everyone. Shut the fuck up. The kindle fire is a hell of a good fucking price cmpared to the "Ipad 2" plus the name doesn't sound totally wrong. I'm not rich. 500 dollars to me is a hell of alot of money. 200 isn't that much. i'm a 15 year old kid and dont want to save up 500 hundred dollars. I'd rather get the kindle fire. not for reading, i like reading a REAL book..i just want it for watching movies and going on facebook :3
